October is here which means Durga Puja and Navratri are about to arrive, which are prominent festivals of India. Also, known as Adi Shakti or Devi, she is created by the Trinity (Lord Brahma Lord Shiva, and Lord Vishnu) and other gods, to slay Mahishasura, a Buffalo demon.
There is a belief that her face was created by Lord Shiva. She is a powerful female form, who reflects feminine energy and is shown with 10 arms holding 10 instruments or weapons. In Hindu mythology, specific weapons are attributed to Goddess Durga and they have deep meaning or significance. Let us know about them.
1. Trishula (Trident): This weapon represents the power to destroy evil forces and ignorance. It symbolizes the three fundamental aspects of existence, that is, creation, preservation, and destruction, which are under control by Goddess Durga.
2. Chakra (Discus): This is a circular weapon that represents the cosmic wheel of time and the cyclical nature of life. It signifies the continuity of life and death and the eternal power of the goddess Shakti.
3. Khadga (Sword): This weapon symbolizes knowledge, wisdom, and the sharpness needed to cut through ignorance and delusion. It is a weapon of knowledge and righteousness.
4. Gada (Mace): This one in Maa Durga's hand represents emotional and physical strength. It signifies the power to crush obstacles and enemies.
5. Shankha (Conch Shell): This weapon represents the sound of creation and the call to battle. It is used to announce the victory of good over evil.
6. Bow and Arrow: It symbolizes precision and focus and represents the ability to aim for one's goals and achieve them with accuracy.
7. Vajra (Thunderbolt): This weapon symbolizes the indestructible and unbreakable nature of truth and righteousness. It is believed to be associated with divine power and strength.
8. Sword: This weapon symbolizes intellect and wisdom and is usually carried by people who have a sense of responsibility and the understanding to discern right from wrong.
9. Axe: This represents the power of Vishwakarma and that one has the power to destroy or create everything.
10. Lotus: This flower is associated with Brahma, and it represents wisdom, as well as the liberation of a person through knowledge.
