Navratri 2023: Significance Of Lemon Mala (Garland) In Kali Puja
In Hinduism, lemon holds great importance in religious rituals and tantra mantras. You must have often seen that people hang lemon garlands on the doors of their vehicles or houses and shops. Lemon is also used to protect one from the evil eye.
But if you have seen the idol of Goddess Kali especially during Navratri, then you can see a garland of lemons around her neck. Let us know the reason behind this.

Why Is Lemon Offered To Goddess Kali?
Lemon is something that is offered to deities in Hinduism. When Goddess Kali started killing the demons, she wore the garland of Narmundo. Today many people offer a lemon garland as a symbolic representation of the same Narmundo garland and wear it around the neck of the Goddess Kali. It is believed that if a lemon garland is worn around the Goddess' neck to gain victory over the enemy, then the Goddess gives the power to win over the enemy.
Apart from this, if there is any other obstacle or illness, then wearing a lemon garland to Goddess Kali is also beneficial in that situation. But the correct method of making and wearing lemon garland is something that you should know.
What Is The Correct Method Of Lemon Garland?
First of all, you need to know the number of lemons. People take an odd number of lemons like eleven, twenty one or fifty one. But pundits suggest that a garland of 51 lemons should be worn. Secondly, lemons should not be raw. They should be ripe and their colour should be yellow. Thirdly, black thread should always be used to knit these lemons. This garland should never be offered at the feet of Goddess Durga, but should be worn around her neck. By wearing lemon garland in the right manner, the Goddess fulfills the wishes of the devotee.
