Chaitra Navratri 2024 Day 1: After a long wait, the festival Goddess Durga is about to begin. Nine different forms of Goddess Durga are worshiped for nine days of Navratri starting from 9th April. Goddess Shailputri is worshiped on the first day of Navratri i.e. Pratipada Tithi. Goddess Shailputri is considered to be the daughter of Himalaya.

Kalash Sthapana or Ghatasthapana is done only on the day of Pratipada Tithi. The incarnation of Maa Shailputri is riding on a bull, holding a trident in one hand and a lotus in the other. Chaitra Navratri 2024 Day 1: Goddess Shailputri Worship Method
First of all, wake up early in the morning and take bath and clean the place of worship thoroughly. After this, place a clean stool and place a red cloth on it and place saffron on the cloth. After this, install the idol of Maa Durga on it. After this install the Kalash.

After this, light the Akhand Jyot. Offer kumkum, white sandalwood, turmeric, akshat, vermillion, betel leaves, cloves along with 16 makeup items to the Goddess. Offer white colored flowers to Goddess Shailputri.

Along with this, tie five betel nuts in a red cloth and place them at the feet of the Goddess. After this, chant the mantras of Maa Shailputri and perform the aarti of Maa.

Worshiping Maa Shailputri as per the rituals gives an increase in respect and health. Along with this, one gets a suitable groom and happiness in married life.

On the first day, white-colored food made from ghee and cow's milk is offered to Maa Shailputri. On this day mainly Kalakand sweets are offered.

It is also customary to read the story of Mata Shailputri on this day. According to this legend, once Prajapati Daksha (father of Sati) invited all the gods during a yagya. But he did not send an invitation to Lord Shiva, the husband of his daughter Sati. But Sati was ready to go to the yagya even without an invitation. In such a situation, Lord Shiva explained to him that it was not right to go to the Yagya without invitation. But Sati started insisting, she did not agree so Lord Shiva allowed her to go.

Sati reached her father's place without invitation and was treated like an uninvited guest. Apart from her mother, no one spoke properly to Sati. The sisters also kept making fun of the Yagya. She could not tolerate such harsh, dismissive behavior and insults from her husband and became angry. And in this anger, guilt, and anger, he burnt himself to death in the yagya. As soon as Lord Shiva got this news, he sent his men to Daksh's place and destroyed the yajna going on at his place. In the next birth, Sati was born as the daughter of Himalaya, hence she is called Shailputri. Shailputri Maa is worshiped on the first day of Navratri.
