During its initial stages, anorexia cannot be identified fast. Sometimes, the signs of anorexia can be mistaken for side effects of medication. Actually, anorexia nervosa can be defined as an eating disorder. The person who suffers from this disorder tends to be obsessed with body weight. This makes the person starve himself or herself. Also, the person who is anorexic, constantly thinks that he or she must lose weight in order to get back to shape.
Another important aspect of this disorder is that the person may seriously believe that he or she is overweight, when in reality, the person is seriously thin. This kind of distorted image is due to a psychological issue. This is the reason why a person suffering form this disorder tries to lose wight by dieting and exercising.
At some point or the other, a person suffering from this disorder may reach a stage of getting skeletally thin. This disorder is nothing but a result of excessive dieting and creating a false self-image by obsessing too much on weight. It is very important to treat this problem on time as starvation can be life threatening.

Skipping meals
People who suffer from anorexia have a habit of denying hunger. This is one of the first signs of anorexia. They tend to skip their meals and they refuse to take food and choose to starve.

Unpredictable eating habits
The eating habits of a person who suffers from anorexia suddenly change. They tend to eat their food secretly. They would prefer to eat only a few types of foods and they also tend to cut the portion size drastically.

Weight loss
Sudden weight loss is one of the warning signs. As this disorder deprives the body of necessary nutrients, weight loss would be one of the first signs of anorexia.

Dressing habits
In order to hide their weight loss, a person suffering from anorexia tends to wear loose clothing. This is one of the warning signs of anorexia.

Hair
Sudden weight loss may decrease the overall boy temperature. This results in hair growth in some areas like face, legs and arms. This is one of the warning signs of anorexia.

Distorted self-image
Anorexic people do have a different self image. They think that they are fat. Though they are extremely thin, they don't realise that and they are always unhappy with their weight and looks.

A change in menstrual pattern
In case of women, their menstrual patterns change when they suffer from anorexia.

Behavioral changes
Those who suffer from this disorder gradually isolate themselves. They stop talking to their immediate family members and they tend to lead secret lives.

Low BP
Another sign of anorexia is low blood pressure. People suffering form this disorder experience low blood pressure.

Dry skin
The skin goes dry due to lack of nutrition. This is why anorexic people look pale and dull. Their skin goes brittle.

Obsession with weight
A person suffering from this disorder gets obsessed with weight. Every now and then he or she checks weight and worries over increase of weight.

Other symptoms of anorexia
Other signs of anorexia nervosa include dehydration, brittle nails, fatigue, dizziness, seizures, hair loss, constipation and osteoporosis.
