Think Before You Reuse A Mineral Water Bottle

Many mineral water manufacturing companies, even the most famous brands use a plastic called Polyethylene Terephthalate or PET that contain a carcinogenic compound called diethylhydroxylamine or DEHA which is safe only for a one-time use. If the bottles are reused, constant rinsing of the bottles may result in the leak of these toxic chemicals which may cause killer diseases like cancer.
DEHA is a hazardous chemical that is said to irritate skin, eyes and the mucous membrane. In case of contact, the affected area has to be washed thoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes.
Many magazines and health sites have reported a story of a 12-yr-old Dubai girl who died due to frequent usage of these substandard plastic bottle (SAFA mineral water bottle). The news is not something that need to be ignored but have to be given a serious thought as any “Plastic" (low quality or high quality ) is creating a lot of pollution in the environment that will ultimately cause danger to health.
So how to check if the mineral water bottle is safe for reuse: Check the number below the bottle, if 5 or above, the bottle is safe else the bottle will release chemicals. Unfortunately, most of the mineral water bottles rate 1.
Also avoid using disposable plastic cups (paper plates) and thermocole cups as even they are said to contain a carcinogenic wax which is said to melt when something hot is poured.
You can even judge the quality of the mineral water bottle yourself by pouring boiling hot water into it. If the bottle looses its shape it means that the plastic is melting and is not safe for reuse.
Why think to spend a few rupees for good health? Buy good bottles for drinking than depending on free low quality plastics. Note that you never compromise health with money.
