Many a times, you may shy away from wearing sleeveless tops or outfits that may reveal your armpits because you may feel that your darkened and discoloured armpits may give you a messy look!
Well, if you do go through that hesitation of not wanting to wear clothes which reveal your armpits each time you step out, then you must be curious to know why your armpits are discoloured!
Every person has some appearance-related issue, which may affect his/her confidence negatively and make that person prone to low self-esteem issues.
Skin problems are known to be one of the top reasons for a person to develop low self-esteem.
Be it acne, pimples, unwanted hair growth, pigmentation, dark spots on the skin, etc, it may make the affected person shy away from socialising and feeling generally good about themselves.
Many a times, we can determine the causes for our skin problems and take the required treatments and precautions to help reduce the problem.
However, sometimes, we may be practicing certain habits unknowingly, which maybe causing skin issues.
Today, we have given you a list of causes that may be the reason for your darkened armpits, have a look.

1. Shaving
If you are someone who shaves your armpits on a regular basis, then you may have to take a break from it, as shaving irritates the sensitive skin of your armpits, leading to discolouration.

2. Acanthosis Nigricans
This is a medical condition that is seen in individuals with insulin-related disorders like diabetes, which can lead to their armpits turning darker than the skin on the rest of their body.

3. Hormonal Imbalance
People with hormonal imbalance and hormone-related disorders like hypothyroidism, Addison's disease, etc, can be more prone to armpit discolouration.

4. Lack of Skin Exfoliation
Due to all the sweat accumulated in your armpits, there is a lot of dead cell layer and dirt built-up on the skin in that area. Regular exfoliation of the skin on your armpits can help you get rid of the discolouration.

5. Use Of Deodorants
Use of excess deodorants and antiperspirants can sometimes make the skin on your armpits to have a bad reaction to the chemicals present in them, thus leading to skin discolouration.

6. Bacterial Infection
Erythrasma is a bacterial infection that affects the skin and causes it to turn brownish and discoloured, this condition is mostly seen affecting the armpits.

7. Regular Waxing
In some cases, regular waxing of your armpits to rid the skin of hair can make them appear dark and discoloured because if waxing is not done properly or if the hair is pulled out with too much force, it can damage your skin cells in that area.
