"Solitude scares me. It makes me think about love, death, and war. I need distraction from anxious, black thoughts."

Fear is something very common that is usually embedded in the nature of mankind. Every person has fear of one thing or the other that he or she might hide or bring it out. Usually we refer to women afraid of certain or many things. But we feel that men are strong enough to overcome the fear of anything. This cannot be the real truth always, men are also found to be afraid of certain things that might be a result of many things. The most common things men are afraid of can be listed

a) Growing old
b) Losing my virility
c) Losing money
d) Losing hair
e) Getting divorced
f) Dying alone
g) Losing a limb

So in a way these look too silly and funny for a man to be afraid of but still these are very common ones which is an outcome of a research. Growing old and losing virility with the passage of time is a great fear in man. Growing old and lose of virile in them is something they are not ready to accept. It makes them feel that they have grown old and they hate such a thought. Keeping aside the fact that they fear the lose of their money and possessions and losing their loved ones they are also aware of the fact that they, might be, in the process of searching the right person as their life partner dye alone at the end.

Men know that they look so strong but in reality they are very weak and also want to depend on others. These men are continuously in search of someone special or someone who can take care of them. Nowadays it is vivid from the fact that the professionals are getting addicted to chatting after their work. They try to find someone who can sooth their thirst and can also remove their loneliness. We find that Devdas was a man and not a woman because men are more weak and they are fearful of facing the realities and they finally destroy themselves out of guilt and loneliness.

Men are extremely independent by nature they like to make their own set of rules and their own methods of lifestyle, but they fear that once a woman enters the scenario these sets of rules and independence vanishes. They are in a way afraid of this and that is the reason why they love to freak out but fear to get committed. Commitment would bring a lot of burdens on them but they do not realize that they also fear the thought of being lonely for the rest of their life.

Men's masculine conditioning creates a great deal of fear, tension and confusion around their concepts of intimacy and sexuality. If they cannot distinguish the difference between their needs for emotional, physical and sexual intimacy, then their chances of being intimate with anyone are greatly reduced.

The other factor most strongly adding to the confusion on men's ability to feel close or emotionally intimate with other men is homophobia - the fear and hatred of gay (and bisexual) men. Homophobia is an irrational fear, and men must ask themselves why they indiscriminately take on board the fear and hatred of a group of men they do not know, and with the only reason being that they are not heterosexual. Gay and bisexual men must somehow be seen as a threat to the power of heterosexual men.
