Kareena Kapoor Khan’s ₹98,000 Kurta Set Is Proof That Classic Doesn’t Need Reinvention
Kareena Kapoor Khan stepped out in Hyderabad on April 11 for the inauguration of a jewellery showroom in Jubilee Hills, wearing a ₹98,000 kurta set.
The price registers immediately, but the look itself takes its time-the colour, the ease of the silhouette, and then the detailing that begins to come through the longer you look.
The Kurta That Does The Talking
This isn't your everyday kurta. Kareena wore the 'Philori' kurta set by Debyani and Co, priced at ₹98,000. At first glance, it's a deep indigo piece. But look closer, and the detailing starts to show up.
The base is rooted in Ajrakh print, a traditional hand-block technique known for its precision and symmetry. Over that sits zardozi embroidery and threadwork, layered across the neckline, sleeves, and hem. The red and ivory chevron patterns around the neckline add just enough contrast without taking over.
What stands out is how the kurta is structured-it almost creates a waistcoat-like illusion without actually being one. Subtle, but sharp.
Not Your Usual Bottoms
Instead of predictable straight pants, Kareena paired the kurta with a poncha salwar. It brings in a different shape-slightly relaxed, but detailed enough to hold its own.
The vertical stripes elongate the look, while the embroidery at the hem ties it back to the kurta. It's one of those elements you don't immediately notice, but once you do, it changes how the entire outfit feels.
The sheer ivory dupatta keeps things balanced. Light, minimal, and exactly what the outfit needs to breathe.
Styling That Doesn't Compete
The styling here is intentional.
- Statement jhumkas do the heavy lifting
- No neckpiece, letting the neckline stay in focus
- A pair of 'Gianvito Rossi' heels adds a modern edge
Makeup stays in Kareena's comfort zone-soft glam with kohl-lined eyes and nude-brown lips. Hair is styled half-up, half-down, and that small red bindi pulls everything together.
So, Why ₹98,000?
Let's address the number because that's what most people pause at.
You're not just paying for a kurta. You're paying for:
- Ajrakh hand-block printing, which takes time and precision
- Zardozi work, a labour-intensive embroidery technique
- A designer label like Debyani and Co
- And a silhouette that blends structure with tradition
It's less about the price tag and more about what goes into making it.
Why Kareena Kapoor's Look Works
Kareena Kapoor's outfit rests on craft, proportion, and a sense of ease. It's wearable-not in the ₹98,000 sense, but in the way it's put together. The kurta fits just right, the dupatta feels effortless, and the earrings do just enough. That sense of familiarity is what makes the look land.
