Taslima for women's welfare
Bhopal, Apr 15 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Culture Minister Lakshmikant Sharma today said Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasrin, fighting for the cause of women, has received worldwide recognition.
Mr Sharma, while addressing a programme on Taslima's literary works at Bharat Bhavan here, said her writings inspired women to struggle against orthodox traditions and the evils of society.
He pointed out that women were regarded as 'shakti (power)' in India.
Thinker and author Anil Madhav Dave who chaired the programme, Mr Dave said someone who struggled societal evils of society always got support from civil society.
He called Mahatma Gandhi's struggle against racism in South Africa and Veer Sarwarkar's freedom struggle and hoped that Pakistan, Bangladesh and India would jointly fight problems in the future.
Explaining the situation of women in Bangladesh, Taslima said her struggle would continue until women got equal status in society.
She said her struggle had been against fundamentalists and orthodox people of Bangladesh.
She also read out some of her poems to also audience.
Bharat Bhavan Trustee Board Chairman Daya Prakash Sinha said women in India had been regarded in three forms: of Saraswati, Lakshmi and Durga and that he saw the forms of Durga and Saraswati in Nasrin.
Bharat Bhavan Trustee Secretary Rameshwar Mishra said the author had published more than 40 books so far.
