55,000 Square Foot Temple In Gold

Vellore, Tamil Nadu, Aug 24 (UNI) In what can be described as a truly golden experience, a 55,000-square-foot temple, dedicated to the Goddesss of Wealth, built with 1,500 kg of gold and costing Rs 300 crore, was consecrated today amid fervour and celebrations.

The Sri Mahalakshmi Temple located in Sripuram, near here, on a 100-acre landscapped site, amid verdant hills and lush greenery, pervades tranquillity and a quiet sense of richness with its intricately-carved golden exteriors.

Construction of the temple took six years with 800 workers lending a touch of class in exclusivity.

A huge army of sculptors, masons, jewellers and metalsmiths have invested time and skills in this creation, which also boasts of artificial waterfalls and gardens.

Speckled with 36 golden pillars and 15 crystal chandeliers in the outer hall, the main deity Goddess Mahalakshmi is made of stone covered with goldsheets and jewellery.

Even as devotees walk up to the temple, as many as, 300 messages of wisdom enlighten them along the pathway
