Six Indian journalists fighting for AIDS

About six journalists from India, who were awarded the "HIV/AIDS: EU-India Media Awards 2005', will be touring the UK as a part of the AIDS awareness campaign.

Manipur Information Centre said Raj Kumar Robindro Singh of Doordarshan Kendra, Prerna Sharma of Delhi Doordarshan, Atal Sharma of AIR Rajkot, Archana Prasad of AIR Lucknow, Akoijam Sunita of IFP, Manipur and Narjis Hussain of HT Media Ltd would be there in UK for a week from September 18 to 22 under the sponsorship of Thomson Foundation and the EU-India Media Initiative on HIV/AIDS.

The Media Awards 2005 was intended to recognise excellence in reporting HIV/AIDS in electronic and print media.

Raj Kumar Robindro got the award for his 5-minute Telefilm 'Lite Thy Light, Prerna won it for her film 'If only' a positive depiction of reality, Atal Sharma for the radio programme 'Listen, Learn, Live' that juxtaposes two HIV couples where one declares the disease and the other chooses to keep it a secret. Archana Prasad won for her radio programme 'Prayas'.

Akoijam Sunita bagged the award for her article 'Who will keep the promise?' for an attempt to examine the role of good governance in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS and Nargis Hussain for 'Treatment from the Right Doctor' for an effort to bring out the issues regularly into the mainstream vernacular media.

The journalists would study the fight of European organisations against the 'global disease' and attend an HIV/AIDS conference on September 21 in London organised by 'Crusaid', a fund raising organisation to financially support the HIV positives.
