Place your ironing board cover on the board while it's still damp, and let it dry in place for a perfect fit. Make sure that the steam vents of the iron box are not clogged. Some iron boxes use tap water; others require distilled water.

Check for any burnt or sticking spot on the iron box from the previous ironing. Clean it with a cloth dipped in baking soda.

Insert a piece of cardboard cut to fit a tie. Cover the tie with cheesecloth, and press lightly with a steam iron.

To avoid flattening embroidery or eyelets iron them facedown on a thick towel.
