Sin Tax On Junk Food

Unhealthy food taxes could help encourage people to eat fruits and vegetables and whole grains, scientists have observed.
Psychological scientist Leonard Epstein at University of Buffalo is the one who initiated the sin taxes and subsides.
Epstein and team recorded the shopping habits of people when taxes were increased on junk food and subsides were given on healthy food items.
Experts found that raising the prices of unhealthy foods or discounting the price of healthy foods proved as effective measure. It reduced the market of unhealthy food.
The findings have been published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science.
