Irregular Eating
Wants to shed the extra weight? Here is the easy mantra for that-have some regular munching to shed those extra pounds!

Irregular eating is the major villain in the over gaining of body weight. The modern lifestyle may even force some people to eat in the middle of the night, when the body wants to sleep! This is not right because the regulation of energy by the body"s circadian rhythms may play a significant role.

How or why a person gains weight is very complicated, but it clearly is not just calories in and calories out. Some factors are under circadian control. Better timing of meals, which would require a change in behaviour, could be a critical element in slowing the ever-increasing incidence of obesity.

The body"s internal clock regulates energy use and that is why the timing of meals might be crucial to balancing caloric intake and expenditure. The shift workers are at the higher risk of gaining weight. Their schedules force them to eat at times that conflict with their natural body rhythms.

Fred Turek, professor of neurobiology and physiology in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and director of the Center for Sleep and Circadian Biology conducted this study along with researchers at
Northwestern University. The researchers' next plan to investigate the molecular mechanisms behind their observation that eating at the "wrong" time can lead to weight gain. The findings of their latest study have been detailed in the online edition of the journal Obesity.
