Formal Wear For Men & Women
For Women:
As women too occupy top positions in the corporate world, high fashion designers like Shahab Durazi, Jay Ramrakhiani and Narender Kumar cater corporate wear for women. Sharply cut jackets teamed with narrow trousers by Shahab Durazi who introduced the Indian woman to the wollen jacket way back in 1987 is known as the Master of Jackets. AND label by Anita Dongre caters to the workingwoman and her collection of jackets; shirts and trousers revolve around basic styling.
On the ready-to-wear side Allen Solly's women's wear, which won the Award for the 'Most Admired Women's Wear Brand' at the 5th Lycra Images fashion Awards, has a line up of jackets, trousers and shirts.
A scarf is a very popular accessory for women's executive wear. Tucked in like a muffler or worn wrapped around the neck with both ends hanging, it gives a smart elegant touch to a sober outfit. Of course, the colours have to be neutral or with a discreet print and the fabric either cashmere wool or pure silk.
Season cuts and colours
For Men:
The ground rules for modern corporate dressing are straightforward. The look for men is clean and simple: shirts, jackets, trousers and suits that fit the body snugly.
As for the latest fashion swing, pin-stripe shirts are making a big comeback this season, and diagonal stripes are likely to make a mark in the months ahead. Look out, too, for the old, conservative look, white collars with coloured shirts, which is set to storm Indian boardrooms. You could also go for soft hues of pink or purple. Shades of white and blue continue to top the corporate classics list. But ties are same colour of the shirt but a tone darker.
Less formal still is the concept of Friday dressing, which has become an intrinsic part of corporate culture. Generally speaking, Friday dressing reverses the corporate trend of light shirts and dark trousers. But there has been a style overhaul here. Today's look is polished and professional: minimal colours and crisper fabrics.
For women:
Women clothes are graduated from western to indo-westerns. The comfort factor is crucial, which is why western outfits are popular with women. The emphasis is on fuss-free, wash-and-wear clothing.
Flat-front trousers, three-fourth-length tops, cotton-linen blended shirts in bright colours, multiple-function jacket suits, and long wrap-around skirts are among the many options here. The look should be vibrant yet understated.
Women are experimenting with colours, cuts, fabrics and styles are shedding monochrome and standardised versions. Fusion fashion has given the traditional salwar kameez a new lease of life. Short kurtas, styled with trouser-like pyjamas, look chic and very Indian. Elaborate embroidery has been replaced with crystal buttons, slick necklines and textured silhouettes.
Jeans and skirts are the order for Friday dressing. So, grab your best and make that grand entry!!
