Even the spiritual progress towards the ultimate goal in this life and the next to 'Mukthi" will be considerably facilitated and brightened by the association of good, righteous and loyal friends. V V S Iyer, therefore, translates the Kural as follows:
“Virtue leadeth unto heaven; and the company of the good steadieth a man in the practice thereof".
K M Balasubramaniam would translate 'Marumai' as the next birth. I prefer the more general interpretation adopted by V V S Iyer of heaven.
