The man who envies another's wealth is the man,
Who could never aspire to virtue and wealth himself.

Only the person who does not aspire to virtue and wealth himself would envy another man"s wealth.

On this Rajaji would comment that only that person who does not care for his own spiritual and mental well-being, allows his mind to entertain envious thoughts, instead of feeling happy at the prosperity of others.

The attitude of the really great man in this regard should be as stated by Thirumoolar when he said 'Yaan paetra inbam paeruha ivaiyagam" meaning that 'all the world should share with me the material and spiritual wealth that I have got".

Vallalar made this idea even more famous. Anything contrary to this constitutes a meanness of mind and poverty of the spirit, which is also characteristic of the man who envies another"s wealth and prosperity. Such people will never acquire wealth or virtue in the real sense and not, at any rate, on a lasting basis.
