Christmas Spirit-What Does It Translate?

Though Christmas emerges from Christianity, it is a global festival and is celebrated across the world.
The spirit of Christmas translates into love, peace and goodwill. The birth of Christ is celebrated, along with the values to be adhered that He had taught like, compassion, sacrifice etc.
Love
Jesus says, “Love thy neighbours as thyself". Christmas simply reminds oneself of the message. The very basis of Christianity is love, from which all other values stem automatically. The life and death of Jesus simply reveals love for the humanity. He loved all alike the sinner and the virtuous. His compassion was not only widely but uniformly spread like that of the sky. Hence to love all is the prime aspect of Christmas spirit.
Sharing
Love is what translates into sharing as well. That could be the reason behind distribution of gifts during Christmas. Distributing gifts is an integral aspect of the festival. Santa Claus, St.Nicholas is thus portrayed as distributing gifts with love during Christmas. Everyone in his own small way distribute gifts during Christmas. Sharing is thus one of the important aspects of Christmas spirit.
Peace and Goodwill
Peace and Goodwill is the central truth of Christianity. Peace is emphasised in harbouring within oneself and with the others, in Christianity. The worship that is involved during Christmas season evokes peace and translates into Christmas spirit.
Charity
Service is one of the most important aspects of Christianity. The numerous, wide spread missionaries across the world spells service. Mother Teresa was an embodiment of service. Charity comes in naturally where there is love for others.
Sacrifice
Sacrifice forms one of the most significant factors of Christmas spirit. For how could one ever forget the immeasurable sacrifice of Christ of His life on the cross for the sins of humanity? Sacrifice is a strengthening bond in humanity.
Celebration
Last but not the least is celebration. Christmas celebration is the celebration of love, joy and peace.
Needless to say that Christmas celebration commemorates the birth of Christ, people rejoice the coming of the saviour. New clothes, gifts, feast and festivity, having worship as the central aspect, all together integrate as celebration.
Ultimately it is love that translates into Christmas spirit, which form the basis for the flowering of other values.
Let us thus light the flame of love and bring about inner illumination this Christmas 2010, and many more to come.
