Goddess Brahmacharini was the daughter of Himalaya and desired to attain Lord Shiva. On the advice of Naradmuni, he started meditating on the Himalayan peaks. He ate only fruits for 1000 years. His body became emaciated due to this harsh penance.

Through his rigorous penance, he also killed many demons. Pleased with her penance, the Gods and Goddesses and the sage blessed her to become Shiva's consort and by taking the form of Parvati, she also became Bhole's companion.
