Jalaluddin Rumi's Practical Lesson

Jalalluddin Rumi, a Sufi master, adopted a practical approach in teaching his disciples. Once he took his disciples to a faraway field which made them quizzical about his intention. On reaching the field, they however came to know that there was definitely a sound reason which the master wanted to reveal to them.
The disciples found the field dug up in eight different places. The farmer seemed insane to them as they found him to have tried to dig up a well in eight different places abandoning each of them in an incomplete state for the lack of water.
Rumi explained to his disciples that had this man been total and had employed his whole energy in digging one well, he would have easily completed his mission. He had actually destroyed his field by his incomplete work. The land is definitely not barren, however he should have dug deeper for water.
