Tetu Eagle - Who Ruled The Blue Sky

Eagle, named Tetu once ruled the blue sky. It soared high into the air and then swayed down like a roaring tiger to feast its prey. Its sparkling eyes and sharp claws would set all its enemies with deepest fear.

One day when Tetu nestled happily in his nest, he saw a hunter passing down with a weird instrument and a bucket filled with fish. He swayed round him again and again waiting for the right time to pick one and fly away. The hunter noticed him and said, 'Oh the king of sky, I have come to offer you some fish for all the good deeds you have bestowed on the people of this land". Tetu was not sharp enough to uncover the vicious plot against those sweet talks. He instead replied with great pride, "How can you gift the king of sky just fishes? It needs lot more for its pride". The hunter replied, " I have loads to give you my king. But my hands were too feeble to carry them all the way into this dense forest. If I am worth it, You can mount on my shoulders and I will take you to the place where I have sacked in loads of food for the entire year".

The foolish Tetu, jumped with joy at the offering of a mere land animal. With a head held high he seeped down on his shoulder and asked him to walk as he stands in pride. The hunter took him near a large fenced cage that had loads of food inside it. Tetu laughed, 'I can gulp all of them in a single day". The hunter said "Great are your works my king, that have been sung praises far and wide, please settle down for your feast as I bring in some more for your honour."

Tetu flew inside the fenced cage to relish its feast, but before it could realise the hunter had locked the door behind him. He squeaked with anger, "How could you betray the king of sky?" The hunter replied, " the similar way the king does. From today you will be a source of entertainment for all the kids who come to watch you in this zoo. Welcome to the caged land of animals."

Days passed into months and months to years, Tetu tried to break free every day. But, alas! The man made fence was stronger that his sharp beak and claws. It looked at the open sky above, some little feathered birds chirped their song of freedom. They swayed and danced to soft beats of the wind. It felt pity for its caged life and miserable for its foolishness. After few days, when children clinged to the fence to see him, they only saw his face lifted high to the sky, waiting for a savior to take him away from this wretched life.
