Is Getting Pregnant With Fibroids Possible?
Uterine fibroids are one of the most common female health problems these days. Earlier, fibroids were common among women in their late thirties. But now, even teenagers have fibroids on their uterine walls. Our unhealthy modern lifestyle and food habits are to be blamed for this. Getting pregnant when you have fibroids is bit of challenge. Whether conceiving with fibroids is possible or not depends on the intensity of the problem.
What Are Fibroids?
This is very rudimentary question, but needs to be answered. Fibroids are basically small tumours that grow on the uterine wall.

Why Getting Pregnant With Fibroid Difficult?
- The main symptom of fibroids is irregular periods. Now if your periods are irregular, it becomes extremely difficult to calculate the exact period of ovulation. That is why conceiving with fibroids is a challenge.
- Sometimes, women who have fibroids do not get their periods up to 6 months. This could only happen when the fibroids are large and block the passage of egg from the ovaries to the uterus.
- As the fibroids grow on the uterine wall, they can hinder the process of implantation of the embryo. This means that getting pregnant with fibroids is not the end of the road. If you get pregnant but the embryo doesn't implant on the uterus walls, you will have a miscarriage within 45 days of the pregnancy.
- There are a lot of problems even after conceiving with fibroids. The fibroids grow in size during pregnancy due to hormonal hyperactivity. This could causes miscarriage as it will not allow the baby to grow. Sometimes, a large fibroid may also block the vaginal passage forcing a c-section delivery.
Are These Infertility Problems Treatable?
Technically you cannot call fibroids an infertility problem. It does contribute to infertility problems combined with hormonal imbalances. But getting pregnant with fibroids is possible. However, it is better to get the fibroids surgically removed before you plan a pregnancy. If the fibroids are minor, then you can try getting pregnant without surgery.
