Who Is This Viral Olympian, And What Motivated Him To Take Up The Sport Of Shooting?
Turkish pistol shooter Yusuf Dikec has become a social media sensation following his flawless performance in the 10-metre air pistol event at the Paris Olympics.
The 51-year-old athlete is enjoying global recognition for his unique approach to the competition.

Dikec's casual appearance at the elite Games, where he wore a plain T-shirt and no protective gear or special lenses, set him apart from other competitors. This unconventional style captured widespread attention during the mixed team 10-metre air pistol shooting event.
What Motivated Dikec Yusuf To Take Up Shooting Sport
Born in 1973, Dikec has participated in every Summer Olympics since 2008. At the ongoing Paris Games, he also competed in the 10m Air Pistol Men event, securing the 13th rank, according to the Paris Olympics website.
His hobbies include dancing, and he began shooting competitively in 2001 after starting work as a non-commissioned officer for Turkey's Gendarmerie General Command.
The Gendarmerie General Command is an armed enforcement agency under Turkey's Ministry of Interior. It aims to maintain security, safety, and public order. According to Nato Centres of Excellence, this agency has a history dating back to 1839.
Historic Win For Turkey
Dikec and Sevval Ilayda Tarhan clinched the silver medal in mixed team 10-meter air pistol shooting on Tuesday. This victory marked Turkey's inaugural medal in Olympic shooting. The gold went to Serbia's Mikec and Zorana Arunovic, while India's Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh took bronze.
Unlike Dikec, Tarhan sported large ear defenders and a visor, along with braids in red and white-the colours of the Turkish flag. She also shot with one hand in her pocket. Dikec finished 13th in his individual event but is already looking forward to the next Games in 2028. "I hope next in Los Angeles (for) a gold medal," he said.
Dikec and his partner Sevval Ilayda Tarhan won a silver medal at the event, while India's Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh secured bronze. "I hope next in Los Angeles (for) a gold medal," he said on Tuesday, referring to the 2028 Summer Games.
Despite being seen aiming with one hand in his pocket during Tuesday's event, Dikec ironically believes that "success doesn't come with your hands in your pockets," as stated on his official Olympics bio. He holds records as a seven-time European champion among other accomplishments.
Dikec took to Instagram to share a video compilation of Turkish-language memes about him, embracing his newfound fame and celebrating his "main character energy." His relaxed attitude and impressive skills have made him a standout figure at this year's Olympics.
