LFW 2014: Sanjay Garg’s Silken Weaves

On Day 3 of LFW 2014, Sanjay Garg closed the show. It is a known fact that Sanjay Garg's weaves are the best handlooms in the world. Lakme Fashion Week 2014 had the privilege of presenting this ace designer's creations in his own signature style. For those of you who are not aware, Sanjay Garg has another fashion label named Raw Mango for Indian weaves.

The show began with pastel coloured and white silks. Then rich colours started to flow from the backstage of the ramp. First there was splendor of blue, then delightful yellows and greens. Chanderi silks have never looked better. There were a number of lehengas that were created out of Banarasi silks. These silken lehengas were paired with sheer Chanderi drapes.

Conversely, the plain Chanderi sarees and lehengas were teamed up with brocade blouses and drapes. The balance used in this collection is just impeccable. Sanjay Garg's LFW 2014 collection one of the best examples of solid colours. Every single outfit in this collection was created out of only one colour and accentuated with golden zari work. There was no hit of colour blocking or use of dual colours. The technique used for developing these garments is ‘kadwa' brocade used in Benaras.

Sanjay Garg's Lakme Fashion Week 2014 collection transcended traditional garments. He used authentic Indian weaves to create modern designs. There we fit and flare dresses with plunging necklines, tunics and kurtas with loose cropped pants. All these designs looked contemporary inspite of the use of plain silks.

Silken Silhouettes

Sanjay Garg used Banarasi silks to craft western designs. He wove fit and flare dresses that had plunging necklines with white silk.

Chanderi Chimes

The other silk fabric used in this collection is Chanderi silk. In some places the entire saree or lehenga is created out of plain Chanderi silk.

Green With Envy

You can see in this image how green brocade silk has been used in three different forms. There is one fit ad flare dress, one V-neck gown and one lehenga choli all crafted out of the same silk.

Deep Plunging Necklines

Sanjay Garg used many different type of necklines in this collection. The deep and plunging V-shaped neckline made the maximum impact.

Gold The Colour Of Richness

Sanjay Garg used golden hues in almost all his creations. These outfits shine with a glint of metallic finish.

The Nudes Among Them

Nude coloured Chanderi silk has never looked more elegant or creative before. This is pure genius from Sanjay Garg.

Benarasi Drapes

These Banarasi drapes have been created by using the kadwa brocade method of weaving. Nothing can match the brightness of these garments.
