India's Tallest Ever Gollu – 27 Ft Rack Of Dolls Unveiled

Radio Mirchi's 'Bombe Habba' went on air a week ago; where constant announcements were made requesting Bengaluru to donate dolls & toys. RJ Raaj & RJ Raghu of Radio Mirchi also personally visited various parts of the city to accelerate the drive. Post the inauguration, this display will be open to the public and the event will culminate end of September by distributing the collected toys amongst various NGOs. Till date, about 2000 toys have been collected and more donations are trickling in.
Ms Sudha Murthy lit the lamp to mark an auspicious beginning to this noble initiative. Followed by the lamp lighting, beats of Dollu Kunitha (Karnataka's traditional dance form) re-instilled the festive fervour amongst participants. Mrs. Murthy then went on to formally inaugurate the 'Bombe Habba' by cutting the ribbon of the Gollu (27ft rack).
Commenting on this occasion, Rahul Balyan, Cluster Head of Radio Mirchi Karnataka & Kerala said, “Bombe Habba initiative has been very close to our heart. Its is our attempt to spread the festive cheer amongst the children at orphanages who don't have their own families to share the festive spirit with. We thank Mrs. Murthy for her encouragement and support for this initiative. We look forward to the city of Bangalore opening up its heart and coming forward to donate toys generously. We have also planned for showcasing of traditional dances of Karnataka like Kamsale, Huli Vesha, Dollu Kunitha & Kolatta as part of the event. We wish the city of Bangalore a happy Dasara, stay tuned to Radio Mirchi for an action packed festival season.
Bombe Habba is traditionally celebrated by arranging dolls and toys in a rack consisting of 9 steps indicating the Navarathri or 9 days of celebrations. The toy collection campaign is on till September 28th, 09. Contributors/ donors can call / SMS on 58888 or log on to Radio Mirchi & place requests to enable pick ups of their toy contributions. Contributions can also be dropped at Radio Mirchi office or Mirchi kiosks placed across central locations like Barista Cafes, Garuda Mall or just call DTDC on 25544127
