Prince William to receive his RAF wings

Prince William will be presented with his RAF "wings" by his father Prince Charles at a graduation ceremony at RAF Cranwell, Lincolnshire.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall joined members of the RAF at a dinner on April 10, to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the air force, of which Prince Charles is Air Chief Marshall.

On April 11, Charles will be guest of honour at the RAF college's graduation ceremony where he will present RAF wings to William, who has been going through a fast track pilot training programme which included taking his first solo flight at RAF Cranwell.

William, training with the RAF since January, is one of 25 graduates who will receive their wings. He will undertake a similar attachment to the Royal Navy later this year.

After the ceremony, Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall will then meet flying instructors, graduates and their families, reports the Daily Express.

They will later view a display of various aircraft, including the Chipmunk T10 trainer plane in which Charles himself learned to fly almost 40 years ago.

William is the latest in a long line of members of the monarchy to learn to fly with the airforce and be awarded the insignia.

Prince Charles trained as a jet pilot at Cranwell in 1971. He completed his helicopter training three years later.
