NGO Grabs National Award For Child Welfare
Shimla, Nov 17 (UNI) Himachal based NGO, Chander Abha Mahila Kalyan Mandal, Kullu has won the National Award for Child Welfare for the year 2005.
The award was presented by Union Women Welfare and Child Development Minister Renuka Chaudhary. The Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resource Development, Mr Janardhan Dwivedi presented the citation and Rs three lakh cash prize to Mr Dharamveer Dhami, President of the Mandal in a function at New Delhi yesterday.
The award was presented in recognition of the NGOs services towards welfare of visually impaired and mentally retarded children with multiple disabilities.
Mr Dhami said the Institution has opened a special school for the blind. At present 21 blind and 31 visually impaired children are getting education and computer training in the school.
The Mandal is also providing regular health check up facilities and medicines to other needy kids.
It has organised many camps and distributed medicines, medical aid and appliances to 57 children. The Mandal has also encouraged handicapped children to participate in sports and other co-curricular activities like dance, singing, drawing and painting etc.
The organisation is spreading awareness among the people through Gram Panchayats and Anganwadi workers regarding prevention of disability.
