Concerned over the issue of ban over the release of 'Fanaa' in Gujarat, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt along with Ahmedabad-based NGO Jansangharsh Manch filed a petition against the ban in the Supreme Court on Thursday. The petition, says Mahesh Bhatt, was to raise his voice against the trend of intolerance in the country. He was concerned about the manner in which ones free speech was coming under attack.
'Fanaa' has been facing problems over its release in Gujarat since Aamir Khan raised his voice and supported the people who will be displaced by the Narmada Dam. The petition filed by Mr. Bhatt seeks for police protection to those multiplexes in Gujarat that want to screen 'Fanaa'. This is not the first time that the director turned writer has gone the court. He had also raised his voice few years back when Deepa Mehta's 'Fire' had faced opposition from certain groups.
