Aizawl, Oct 10 (UNI) The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund(UNICEF) would be implementing a 'special immunisation programme in entire North East region.
The special immunisation programme will be organised for the next five-months, health officials here today informed.
Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry in association with UNICEF will also carry out special immunisation drive in 11 more mainland states, including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Even though there is no polio case had been reported so far in the Northeastern states, UNICEF has found that there is risk in the wake of the polio outbreak in neighbouring Bangladesh.
The special immunisation drive is aimed at reaching out inaccessible areas to administer immunisation to all children aged between zero-five and pregnant women, the sources added.
The one-week first phase of the special immunisation programme will commence on October 15.
The second phase will be held from November 13 to 19 while the next three phases would be starting from December 10, January 21 and February 25 next.
In the special campaign against six deadly diseases, infants and pregnant women will be immunised against tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio and measles.
