Quick Tips To Care For Your Rugs
Rugs are one of the most essential types of soft furnishings that complete the look of your home. Mostly used for layering, a rug under your feet provides warmth and adds to the aesthetics.
What's more? Rugs help anchor the room or any chosen area too. That's why it is necessary to take care of the same to maintain the looks and longevity of the same!

Here are some quick tips to maintain the rugs:
Vacuum Between Professional Cleanings
Ideally, it is advisable to get the rug cleaned professionally at least twice a year. Apart from that, you need to clean and vacuum the rug once a week to ensure there is no accumulated dirt. Also, any type of dirt or stain should be removed immediately for keeping the rug clean and dirt-free.
Rotate the Rug Periodically
Rug positions should be changed periodically or at least annually. Not changing its position at all or for a longer duration will result in uneven wearing and fading. For example, a rug whose specific side is exposed to sunlight will appear more faded than others. That's why you need to ensure that you rotate the rug for even wear!
Avoid Placing Bulky Furniture Over It
It is not advisable to place heavy furniture pieces over the area rugs as it can crush the rug fibres and form dents over them. You can however use the furniture coasters to prevent depressions in the rugs or carpets.

Use a Rug Pad
A rug pad works as an added layer underneath the rug. It absorbs sound and prevents the user from slipping and gives additional softness. A rug pad is definitely an investment that helps extend the life of the rugs.
Don't Use DIY Cleaning Methods
Blotting or removing the stains with wet napkins or paper towels is in fact the first step to adding to the damage. Most cleaning solutions and detergents contain harsh chemicals that damage your rugs. Also applying water to stains will only enlarge the stain and will add to the bleeding of dyes, discolouration, and damage to the floor too.
Get it Cleaned Professionally
There can never be second opinions about getting the rug cleaned professionally. No matter whether you may be cleaning or maintaining the rug regularly, a professional rug cleaning will help maintain its natural colour, texture, and beauty. Get your area rugs cleaned by professionals every 12-18 months. Rugs that are kept in heavy traffic areas or exposed to pets, should be cleaned often. Under professional rug cleaning, tough stains and odours i.e. pet urine, dust mites, mould spores, cigarette smoke, etc will be removed thoroughly.
