Can You Lend A Zero Rupee Note?
Can you lend me a zero rupee note? No! I haven't gone insane to ask this question. There are at least 75,000 printed 'zero rupee' notes in our country that common folk grab at an opportunity. Now, if you are wondering, how can you use these notes, here is the answer. Hand this over to those corrupted officials who demand bribe to provide your driving license, birth certificate or any other public service.
The 'zero rupee' note is a novel campaign organized by '5th pillar', a non-profit, non-governmental organization to fight corruption. This 'zero rupee' note, which resembles an original thousand rupees note, is a sign of unwillingness to bribe. It has the picture of Mahatma Gandhi on it with the pledge: "I promise to neither accept nor give bribe" printed both in English and Tamil. You can find the 'zero rupee' notes printed in Hindi and other languages too. Volunteers of the organization have already distributed 75,000 'zero rupee" notes among students as part of a month long campaign "Freedom from Corruption." Now, can you lend me a zero rupee note?
