8 Simple Tricks To Clean Plastic Storage Containers
Cleaning plastic storage containers is a painstaking task. Unlike steel or glassware, main things to consider while scrubbing the plastic is greasiness, odour and stains. Easy as it may seem, plastic containers give a tough time in maintaining them.
Boldsky brings you some of the efficient techniques to clean your plastic storage boxes. With these go-to tips you will be able to manage the cleanliness of the plastic containers. We have divided the tips into three sections - odour, greasiness and stains.
Six Kitchen Cleaning Tips For Working Moms
So before we proceed it is important to understand the quality of your plastic container. It is better to have thick and sturdy plastic containers for every day use rather than thin and flimsy ones. There are high chances that the containers made of thin plastic will easily get disfigured they get in contact of food items.

To Get Rid Of Odour:
Lemon: Rich in citric acid, lemon is one of the natural disinfectants. It has low pH levels and high antibacterial properties which easily ward off the strong odour of the plastic containers. You can use lemon juice or cut this fruit into half and rub on the interior of the plastic boxes. Then complete the scrubbing with baking soda. Rinse and dry.

Newspaper: It might seems odd but yes your favourite daily newspaper can do the magic to remove the unwanted smell in plastic. Fill the container with a crumpled newspaper, close lid and leave it overnight (you may also keep it for around days). Clean the storage box using lukewarm soapy water.
Vinegar: Dilute 2/3 vinegar in 1/3 water. Fill up the box with this solution and let it stay overnight. Wash with water.

To Get Rid Of Greasiness:
Baking soda: Make a paste of baking soda with water. Using a soft cloth rub the paste on the plastic storage boxes. Then wash them with lukewarm water. Baking soda is a mild abrasive and takes out the stickiness off the plastic.
Detergent soap: This is the most used methods. Soak the plastic containers in lukewarm detergent water for about 10 to 15 minutes. Wash them with your regular dish soap and allow them to dry under the sun. The greasiness will simply vanish with this simple technique.

To Get Rid Of Stains:
Chlorine bleach: Make solution out of chlorine bleach and water. For one tablespoon of liquid chlorine bleach use one cup of warm water. Put the solution into the plastic storage box and soak it around for half hour. Clean the container with warm soapy water.
Sunlight: We all know that leaving anything out in the sun for long time results into fading of colour of that particular item. Same goes with tough stains on the plastic storage boxes. Leave out the container in the sun for around three to four hours or till the stain disappear. Once it is faded wash it clean.
Cooking spray: In order to avoid your plastic boxes getting stained use cooking spray before placing food in it. The oil acts as a barrier between the food and plastic.
