Cleaning And Maintaining Woollen Garments

Cleaning And Maintaining Woollen Garments
1. Generally it is not very hard to remove solid stains on sweaters as just using the nail itself will take the stain out. For ink and other stains (liquid stains), it is best to wipe them immediately than allow dry.
2. One of the main reasons why woollen garments like sweaters, stoles and shawls look old and dirty is because of the bobbins. They make the winter wear appear old and attract dust. For these, use salt paper to scrape away the loose balls.
3. Whenever you plan to wash woollen wear, do not soak them in water but hand wash or machine wash with mild liquid detergent. Do not brush as it will pull all the loose knits.
4. Before drying them, soak the winter wear in a fabric conditioner (about 15 minutes) as this will keep the fabric new and fragrant. Dry woollen clothes using hangers as this will prevent them from losing shape.
5. If the weather is not suitable for drying (not sunny), Use your hair dryer or room heater to dry up the clothes. Spread the washed clothes over a mat or bedspread.
6. Fold and store them in a paper bags. Naphthalene balls, potpurris will keep moth, mould and mildew away.
7. To maintain the colour of the woollen garment, soak them in rock salt water. Do not use bleach or ammonia for the garments.
