What Not To Plant Together?
What to plant together in garden? Some plants do well when they are together whereas some combinations don't do well as they compete for nutrients in the soil and hamper each others' growth. This is why knowing what to plant together in a vegetable garden is very important if you are new to gardening and trying your hands in it just now. If you make the mistake of planting enemies together, your harvest may go for a toss and your investment turns out to be a loss.
Steps to Grow Lavender in Your Garden
If gardening is your hobby, you can surely find ways to de-stress yourself. You can enjoy gardening as it offers you lots of challenges and a different type of joy too. Getting back to the point, let us discuss about what plants don't do well when planted together. Beyond this, there are lots of other combinations which might not go well but due to space constraints, we shall provide only a few examples here.

What Not To Plant Together?

Cucumber
Never plant tomatoes with cucumber. It is better to know what to plant together when you are planning to plant cucumber in your garden. The soil quality is very important for the plant to grow well. So, you can never take chances.
Beans
Almost all types of beans don't allow onions, garlic and chives. Also, pepper cannot survive well along with beans. When you have any of these in your plans, find separate spaces to accommodate them as they mess up things if your put them together in your garden.
Peas
Just like beans, even peas dislike onion, garlic and chives. If you are planning to include peas in your list, exclude the rest and plant only peas in that particular section of your garden.

Sunflowers
Though you wish to colour your backyard with lots of sunflowers, it is advisable to think again as they don't do well with some other plants. Research says that the roots of sunflower plants emit certain toxins which hamper the growth of other plants if they are too close to the sunflower plant. Maybe, this happens because sunflower plants need all the nutrients for themselves.
Cauliflower And Broccoli
Both cauliflower and broccoli hate pumpkins and peppers. This is why you must never plant them in one single place. If you wish to go further and find out the reasons, you can always go to the nearest nursery and talk to a gardening expert who can give you suggestions about what to plant together and what not to.
