You like to have a beautiful garden at home but are falling short of space, what to do? well, there are ways to make at home look greener by growing a certain houseplants which can thrive well in pots and containers. These plants don't demand much care apart from watering. 1. Croton - Common houseplant will not only keep your house green but will also make it look colorful with its multi colored leaves. The glossy foliage loves sunlight and porous soil. Can be placed near the window or balcony. Different types of Crotons are available in the market like Croton Crispum (dwarf plant), Croton Delaware (medium sized plant) and Croton Golden Ring.
Growing Conditions:
Light: Direct Sunlight
Water: Maintain the Soil moist
Soil: Porous Soil with Compost
2. Laurentii (Sansevieria trifasciata) - This Variegated Snake Plant is an African native plant. The plant can occupy good space as its leaves range to 4 feet long by 2.75 inches wide. The leaves are banded with yellow lines and are durable irrespective of the weather conditions. They are drought tolerant plants and can eaily grow in low light areas. They can be propagated by simply dividing rhizomes in any season of the year.
Growing Conditions:
Light: Preferably Shade
Water: Every other week
Soil: Well drained soil
3. Bromeliads (Bromeliaceae) - These can be excellent houseplants with a little care. The forest blooms can be grown by frequent watering, high humidity (preferably in an AC room) and indirect sunlight. With these the colorful flowers are yours. Ideally, bromeliads grow well in temperatures ranging between 55ºF to 80ºF. The drought tolerant plants can also be mounted on the logs and plants.
Growing Conditions:
Light: Indirect Sunlight
Water: Watering required only if the soil cup of the plant is dry
Soil: Well fertilized potting mix.
4. Ribbon Plant (Lucky bamboo) - Lucky Bamboos are perennial plants of Dracaena species. These plants are not only suited for a house atmosphere but are also popular choices for Office. The plants thrive well in awful, poor lighting and poor air conditions. These are even said to bring luck and positive energy, which is why the name.
Growing Conditions:
Light: Bright Sunlight
Watering: Moist Soil, a small mug of water would be sufficient.
Soil: well-drained, rich potting soil with a few drops of liquid fertilizer.
5. Jelly Bean Plant (Sedum rubrotinctum) - Commonly known Pork is a native plant of Mexico. The houseplant asks for a lot of sunlight and cannot tolerate heat. This cactus and succulent plant can withstand temperatures as low as 25 degrees. The urban garden plant can be grown in the balcony or near windows and requires zero maintenance.
Growing Conditions:
Light: Bright Sunlight
Watering: Every alternative day
Soil: sandy soil mix or cactus mix.
