7 Effective Hacks To Get Rid Of Mildew From Any Surface
From those powdery spots on wooden furniture to musty black stains on walls or tiles, most of us face the issue of mildew growth in our homes, especially during monsoons. Mildew is a common mould that thrives in wet or damp spaces and clings to common surfaces like walls, tiles, fabrics, wood, and even paper.
If left untreated, mildew can trigger skin allergies, breathing problems and decreases the indoor air quality in homes. We have listed some easy cleaning hacks to bid goodbye to mildew for good:

Walls and Grout
Mildew spots are common on walls and grout, especially in the bathroom where proper ventilation is not available. You can stop the mildew growth by - Mixing ¾ cup of bleach with around one gallon of water and applying the mixture with a soft scrubber or brush on walls or grout patches. Let the solution settle over the fungus and rinse with water. Wipe dry with a soft cloth. Always wear gloves whenever cleaning with bleach or any type of solution.
Shower curtains
Mildew growth on shower curtains is a common occurrence. To avoid these not-so-app leaning fungi spots, wash the plastic shower curtains every 15 days in the washing machine with a regular clothes cleaning detergent. Allow it t dry completely to remove excess moisture before hanging them on the rod again!
Clothes
Storing your seasonal wear clothing somewhere deep in the closet and then forgetting about it is as common as seeing mould stains n them after a few days. You can get rid of these black fungi by washing them with quality detergent and sun drying them completely. Another way to avoid mildew growth on clothes is to store them in a dustproof storage bag to avoid the growth of fungus on fabrics!
Carpets or rugs
With rug or carpet pile, it is difficult to locate the mildew growth on the same but mostly it will be present unless you ensure to vacuum or through clean your rugs on a timely basis. If not, then make a maintenance habit for rug and carpet cleaning. If these soft furnishings get stains or spills of any kind, then ensure to spot-clean them immediately with a rug cleaner. Avoid adding water to it as it can lead to spreading the stain and adding dampness to the same. Get the area rugs or carpets in your home professionally cleaned at every six months' interval!

Wood surfaces
Mildew can make on wooden cabinets, panelling or any type of furniture if they're exposed to moisture. Clean the mildew spots with a soft, dry brush attachment. Wipe off the spots with a soft cloth dipped in a mixture of dishwasher detergent and water. Dry off the excess moisture with a soft cloth. You can apply a thin coat of wood seal polish to restore the shine and protect the finish.
Cushions Covers, Bed linens
Wash the cushion covers, throws, bed linens, curtains, and drapes on a timely basis. If you don't wash these soft furnishings on a timely basis, then mildew can make its way onto these surfaces and can lead to must smells and visible dark fungi patches. You can also vacuum these furnishings on a weekly basis.
Old Books
Old, thrift-store-bought books may add to home decor but these can also be a breeding ground for mildew. Open the books and air the pages under sunlight for at least three hours. You can also brush off the fungi with a soft dry cloth. Remove the old, rigid stains by wiping the books or their pages with a soft cloth dipped in a solution of chlorine bleach and water mixture. Wipe the books with a soft dry cloth and fan dry.
