Do up your Bedroom Part IV
Get the effect by lighting it right!
Lighting, we all know affects us psychologically, emotionally and also on a subconscious level. Power of good lighting is more influential than most people are aware of. Likewise, bedroom lighting impacts the mood and function of the bedroom in a significant way.
Lighting the bedroom correctly will result in a controlled environment where the room can be as bright or dark as needed for function or relaxation. It is well known that complete darkness is essential for good night sleep. However, more people use bedroom as a multi functional room where they watch TV, read a book, relax or even work.
In such a case, it is necessary to layer the lighting in a way that will result in the ability to create scenes of lights for a specific duty. Divide the lights to a few switching circuits according to their function. This will allow you to dim each group of lights separately. For example: the reading lights for a couple should each have their own switch. The light used for reading, should shine from behind the individual, in order to eliminate shadows. Low glare light is advised for reading.
Dimming controls too give you the flexibility to vary the light to suit different moods and activities. You can have individual dimmer switches for each lighting layer. You can even have an individual remote control or scene control switch by the bedside.
General lighting in the bedroom can be provided by ceiling fixtures, chandeliers, fan-lights, recessed down lights or wall scones. These give you the illumination you need for dressing. For closets, surface-mounted light is suggested. At the dressing table, an adjustable, lighted magnifying mirror will provide ideal lighting for grooming and applying make-up. Table lamps also provide illumination that is both fashionable and functional.
Glare is a complete no-no in the bedroom so use light sources that are completely shielded. The lighting should not shine directly towards TV. Wall washers in the form of recessed lights, cable or track lights are great since they provide two functions. They illuminate the walls and at the same time they provide indirect lighting for the room.
Keeping all these features in mind, create a better atmosphere and functional bedroom for yourself. Go indulge!
