As we know, heavy blood flow during periods can be extremely uncomfortable and can also be painful, if it is accompanied by menstrual cramps.

So, many women get rather worried when they are experiencing heavy flow during the periods, as it could be a sign of many disorders, including cancer.
However, when the period flow is relatively lighter, many of us do not give it much thought and just brush it off, which is not right, as we could be putting our health at risk!

1. Weight Fluctuations
If you have lost or gained a lot of weight in a short span of time, the nutrient balance in your body, along with the hormonal balance can be disturbed, causing lighter periods.

2. Stress
If you are experiencing extreme stress on a daily basis, then your hormones can be affected to a considerable extent, causing a lighter flow during menstruation.

3. Birth Control Pills
If you are a woman who is on hormonal birth control pills, there is a good chance that your period flow could be lighter than usual, due to the hormonal imbalance caused by birth control pills.

4. Age
It is noted that, many women start to experience lighter flow, as they get older, because they are getting closer to menopause and the oestrogen hormone levels in their body decrease.

5. Cervical Stenosis
This is a rare disease in which the opening of the cervix becomes narrow, trapping the period blood inside, thus making a women experience a lighter flow.

6. Blood Loss
If you have experienced a massive amount of blood loss in the recent past, due to injuries or during childbirth, naturally, your period flow would be lesser.

7. Scar Tissue
If there is a scar present in your uterus, as a result of an injury or surgery, it could also lead to lighter flow during periods, as the lining on your uterine walls would not be thick enough.
