How To Avoid Fainting During Summers
By following certain precautionary measures, fainting during the summer season can be prevented. Check it out.
Syncope is a medical condition characterized by fainting. Though there can be many reasons behind this sudden abrupt loss of consciousness, the major culprits have to be the drop in blood pressure and heart rate.
The fluctuation of blood pressure of an individual may be caused by many factors like medication, exercise, sodium levels, etc.
However, what we often forget and/or are unaware of is the seasonal fluctuation of blood pressure. Blood pressure tends to rise during the winters and fall during the summers.

Fainting can be mainly caused due to dehydration and heat which is extremely common during the summers. Also if you want to know about the ways to prevent stomach infection during summers then click here.
There are some obvious symptoms that suggest that you may suddenly lose consciousness.
First, you may feel weak. Next, you may start breathing heavier than normal. This is called hyper-breathing. This may be followed by headache and dizziness. Ultimately, this leads to complete blackout and loss of balance.
Although these fainting spells are usually benign, one must not take them lightly. The simple reason behind this is that people may injure themselves physically when undergoing a fainting spell.
So one must take necessary precautions to prevent fainting spells.

1. Remain Hydrated
The major reason behind loss of consciousness is dehydration. Your urine should be clear or clear yellowish, especially in summers. Drink enough water and fluids to stay hydrated.

2. Avoid Heat
This is almost obvious again. Avoid direct heat. Don't go out during the sultry afternoons. Use an air conditioner or an electric fan. Your main goal should be to prevent any amount of sweating which could be caused by extreme heat or humidity.

3. Avoid Exercising During The Hot Hours
You may want to reschedule your workout sessions. Please do not work out during the afternoons or in the open. Work out during the early mornings or during the night. Again, sweating is to be avoided. Drink plenty of water to replenish the water lost due to sweating.

4. Having Electrolytes
Electrolytes are important to maintain your blood pressure level. A tablespoon of salt can be added to water to maintain a healthy maintenance of blood pressure if you have low blood pressure.
Electrolytes may also be derived from health drinks. However, you must make sure that such health drinks do not contain too much of added sugars. Too much of sugar contains excessive calories and empty calories cause weight gain. Lime juice or lemonade can be another source of electrolytes.

5. Dress Properly
Wear dresses that are best suited for the summers. Wear light colours instead of dark ones. Dress in cottons instead of synthetic clothing. Avoid tight clothing. Wear minimum clothing when indoors. This will reduce sweating, thereby preventing water loss.

6. Have Foods That Maintain Blood Pressure
Since fainting is caused due to low blood pressure, one must strive to increase the blood pressure. Sodium is an obvious and well known component. But there are other food components like dairy products.
One cup of low-fat milk contains approximately 100 mg of sodium which can help maintain the blood pressure. Drinking alcohol in moderation increases the blood pressure. However, this must not be the most preferable resort to increase blood pressure as it contains empty calories which do not benefit you much.
Another good and delicious option is packing the meal with sea food. Shrimps, lobsters and sea fishes can act as important additions to your diet.

7. Bathing
When you take a super cold shower, the peripheral blood vessels will suddenly constrict to save heat and this will increase the blood pressure for sometime. This will in turn prevent fainting. Always take a cool shower in the summers and avoid hot showers as this will lower the blood pressure drastically.

8. Visit The Doctor
Fainting once in a while may be relatively benign. If, however, these fits become too common then one must consider visiting a specialist. In such cases self medication must be avoided at all costs.
