Obesity or being overweight can take a real toll on your health by making you vulnerable to a lot ofhealth disorders. This article discusses 7 such serious diseases.
When one's weight increases by at least 20 per cent more than the normal, the resulting condition is called obesity. Obesity is a worldwide health problem today and across all ages, owing to factors like unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity.
Obesity can be related to several ailments like heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, some types of cancer, osteoarthritis, asthma, sleep apnoea, etc.
It is not that every person having obesity has these problems, but the risk definitely goes up if one's family history has all these conditions. Besides, if your body weight accumulates around your stomach, it would also increase the risk of obesity.
In this article, we discuss six severe health conditions that could occur in connection to being overweight or obese:

1. Heart Disease:
The extra weight that accumulates in your body increases the high blood pressure and cholesterollevels. So,always keep the weight under control (ideally by reducing 5to 10 per cent of the weight),so that you are less vulnerable to obesity.

2. Cancer:
Obesity can lead to cancers inthecolon, kidney, breasts, oesophagus, etc. Even organs like ovaries and pancreas might not be spared because of overweight problems.

3. Diabetes:
One has a high probability of turning diabetic (Type 2) if he/she is obese. Cut the risk of getting affected by the deadly disease by reducing your weight and eating healthy food, getting proper sleep and exercising more. If you already have Type 2 diabetes, then becoming physically active and losing weight must become a priority. It also helps you in reducing medication for diabetes.

4. Gout:
This is another joint-related ailment that takes place when one has too much of uric acid in his/her blood. The extra uric acid forms crystals in the joint deposits, causing irritation and numbness. Gout is more frequent in people who have extra weight. Shed the extra kilos to prevent this health disorder.

5. Sleep Apnoea:
Being overweight also leads to an uncomfortable breathing condition called sleep apnoea. It makes a person snore heavily and suffer from breathlessness during sleep. It can also cause daytime sleepiness and that in turn can make the heart more susceptible to ailments. Hence, it is important to reduce weight to get rid of the problem of sleep apnoea.

6. Osteoarthritis:
This is a common joint problem thatcan affect the knees, hips or back. The heavier one's body becomes as a result of being overweight, the more the joints come under pressure. As a result, the cartilage of the joints wears and tears, worsening the conditionevenmore. Weight loss hence helps ease the stress ontheknees, hips and lower backregion.
