There are essentially two types of hair and scalp disorders: infectious and non infectious. Infectious diseases are those that are contagious and can spread from one person to another. The most typical example of them are impetigo, head lice, ringworm, scabies, warts and some more.
The severity of these diseases and their risk to the surrounding people might differ significantly. It is of primary importance to notice the symptoms, determine the cause and start the appropriate treatment as soon as possible. For this purpose, let us take a look at some common contagious conditions of the scalp and hair.

Impetigo is an extremely infectious disease that is most common among children. The main cause of it is microorganisms that enter through a cut or injured scalp skin. Impetigo is portrayed by large damp blisters that progressively dry and form a yellow crust.
Scabies is an ectoparasite skin infection that is the result of a little mite which will burrow throughout the scalp and lay eggs there. It is characterized by an itchy rash and red spots and tunnels on the scalp.
Warts are little raised lumps, that are normally found on hands and legs, but can happen on the scalp as well. The primary reason for this disease is a human papillomavirus, which is transmitted through direct contact with the infected individual.

Folliculitis is an infection of the hair follicles caused due to microorganisms that enter the scalp through cuts or by direct contact with the infected person.
Scalp psoriasis is an incredibly contagious scalp disease that is characterized by pink spots that increasingly develop into round patches with damaged hairs. The primary reason for this infection is the fungus which could be distributed directly or indirectly through combs and brushes, garments and towels.
