Healthy Ways Of Eating Green Leafy Vegetables
1. Wilt Them – The first thing that one needs to before eating green leafy vegetables is remove the necessary twigs and non woody part of plant. The edible, soft and tender portion of the leaf can be utilised for garnish, chutneys or even had as it is. Most of the germs the bug eggs are usually found on the non woody parts and not so visible areas of the plant.
2. Tips While Washing – While washing green leafy vegetables, wash them in clear water or boil the leaves in salt water so that the germs and eggs die in high temperatures. Some also wash in potassium permanganate to get rid of the excessive dust and dirt.
3. Chopping Ways – To obtain all the nutrients that's present in the green leafy vegetables, it is best to chop finely and have raw. Certain leaves like fenugreek, cilantro, curry leaves, oregano, basil, spinach, lettuce, gongura can be had raw and require no cooking. Chopping them finely and adding them or grinding them once or even as paste will benefit non eaters to relish.
4. Healthy Ways To Eat – Make soup, add for salads, garnish pastas, steam with rice, grinding it to chutney. Preparing soups is the best as it will contain sufficient amount of nutrients in a single bowl. Chopped green leafy vegetables can also be had with other vegetables, the taste of the leaves (if one doesn't like) is ruled over by other vegetables like garlic, ginger and onions. Steaming greens with rice will give a good flavour to rice and can be had with curry or just ghee and salt.
5. Healthy Cooking Tips – Never boil or cook vegetables with lid open. If planning to pressure cook, never waste the boiled water instead add little spices, salt and lemon juice and savor as soup.
