Cannes 2025 : Parul Gulati Wears ‘Her Hair And Her Story’ On The Red Carpet
When the red carpet rolled out at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, it brought with it the usual flurry of couture and celebrity. But this year, one debut stood out for all the right reasons. Indian actor and entrepreneur Parul Gulati arrived with a statement. Dressed in a bespoke gown made entirely of human hair, Parul used fashion to bridge her personal story, professional journey, and creative vision. It wasn't just a dress-it was a conversation starter.
From Business To The Boulevard
Parul's unique outfit was born from her own entrepreneurial journey. She is the founder of Nish Hair, a successful brand that offers hair extensions designed to empower women and embrace natural beauty. The gown, composed of real hair, was a symbolic extension, quite literally-of her work.
Designed in collaboration with renowned stylist Mohit Rai and designer Riddhi Bansal, the dress was crafted by a team of 12 artisans over the course of a month. It featured a sculpted bodice, plunging neckline, and a hemline adorned with braids in varying lengths. Every element of the gown was thoughtfully constructed to reflect Parul's commitment to craft, innovation, and authenticity.
Style With Substance
Speaking to Brut, Parul explained, "I am an entrepreneur. I have a company named Nish Hair. I make hair extensions, so I have made a dress from my own hair. This is my own story."
Later, in an interview with IANS, she added: "Wearing an outfit made entirely out of human hair wasn't just about pushing fashion boundaries, it was a homage to my journey, to every woman who's ever embraced her uniqueness... our roots, quite literally, can be our biggest strength."
Her styling was elegant and restrained. She paired the gown with open-toe heels, subtle earrings, a gold ring, and her signature understated makeup. Her hair fittingly was swept into a sleek bun. The focus remained squarely on the gown, letting its message take centre stage.
A Moment Bigger Than Fashion
Parul's appearance also stood out as an inspiring proof that fashion can be personal, political, and powerful. In an industry where celebrities often wear the vision of someone else, Parul wore her own. Her look was not designed to simply impress; it was meant to express.
Owning The Narrative
Parul Gulati's Cannes debut went far beyond surface-level glamour. By choosing to wear a gown made from the very product her business is built upon, she transformed the red carpet into a platform for self-expression and storytelling.
In a world where branding often feels hollow, Parul offered something rare-authenticity. And in doing so, she reminded us that sometimes, the boldest fashion statements come not from following trends, but from following your own story.
