Lets Get Waisted! How to get that High Waisted Look Trending Right Now
Time to hide that toe-cleavage, ladies! Summer's out, and so are hot pants, bandeau tops, flip-flops, straw hats and whatever else you had going. Lets get talking about the looks designers are parading up and down their runways.
This season it's all about flounce hemlines, asymmetrical patterns, monochrome, plaid, thigh high boots, bling, over-sized coats and cuffs, fishnets fur, gloves, and so on.

However, knowing that India is a tropical country, mostly warm through the year, most of these trends won't be totally practical but high waistlines are definitely in scope here!

The silhouette this fall is very lean and sexy, modern and feminine, very urban chic. What better way to represent it than with waistlines that ride up higher than ever?
The look is all about elongating the legs and turning the torso into the tiny tip of a textile iceberg. Even though the hottest months of the year are behind us, models have scorched the runway in skinnies, slouchy trousers, denims and skirts that originate way above their natural waistlines. Girls, sign up immediately because this exaggerated silhouette is sure to flatter every body type!

Versace, Vionnet, Mugler, Topshop Unique, Zimmermann, Acne Studios, Rodarte, Givenchy, Jason Wu. We have the best of the best urging us on to try the dapper sky-high waist this season, why not? It's amazing how anyone can achieve the appearance of towering legs that only some were born with just by upping the cinch of the waistline and adding heels. So, lets talk about adapting this look to an Indian context.

The four seasons are felt vividly only in a few parts of the subcontinent so the rest of us can rely on light, flowing fabric to get us through the year.
True, flowing outfits rule spring and summer but it's no sin to transition them into fall. Pair long high waist skirts with sleeveless turtlenecks or shorter hemlines with cropped or full-sleeved tops.
Add a scarf if there is a nip in the air, experiment with silk, velvet, leather, linen, etc and accessorise with bags sharing the colour palette. Avoid very slouchy sweaters or big, flouncy skirts and trousers if you're a little on the heavier side, pick a-line or pencil cuts and remember, vertical striped skirts are a slimming miracle.

Indians truly have the best of both worlds; a marriage between desi and international fashion. Feel free to wear Indian skirts, palazzos or trousers, and brownie points if they're high waisted, that way you'll keep with international fashion trends.
Amp up your look with chunky jhumkas, bangles and statement necklaces, bling is so in, girl! However, be warned, you're allowed only one accessory per outfit, else you'll end up looking like a store display. Not cool.

All this said, be sure of yourself and add your own twist to the season's most alluring look. Welcome the chill in style with feminine cuts and lines, add or take away from the outfit, dare to bare some midriff or bulk up in heavy layers, it's your look. Only remember to allow the highest waistline yet to define your style and let you catch eyeballs wherever you strut.
