Sheermal: Ramzan Spl Sweet Bread Recipe
Ramzan recipes are not always filled with meat and spices. You can also have dishes that can be enjoyed by people who have a sweet tooth. By the way, we are not giving you a dessert recipe for Ramzan here. Have you ever heard of Sheermal? This is a very special recipe that popular in Islamic households of India.
Sheermal is basically sweet bread that can be eaten with curries or dal. The recipe for making sheermal is not complicated but it will require some effort on your part. So it is not going to be a Ramzan recipe that will be complete cake walk. However, you can certainly try out this recipe to had variety to your Iftar platter.

Preparation Time: 1 hour
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients
- Flour- 2 ½ cups
- Caster sugar- 1 tbsp
- Solid milk- ½ cup
- Instant yeast- 2 ½ tsp
- Kewra water- 1 tsp
- Clarified butter- 3 tbsp
- Cream- 3 tbsp
- Egg- 1 (beaten)
- Milk powder- 4 tbsp
- Luke warm water- 2 cups
- Milk- 2tsp
- Sesame seeds- 1tsp
Procedure
- Take flour, salt, caster sugar, solid milk, instant yeast, kewra water, clarified butter, cream, egg and milk powder in a bowl.
- Add lukewarm water to the contents and knead a dough. Cover the dough with a wet cloth and keep it aside for 1 hour.
- Now make fist sized balls from the dough and roll it out into doughs.
- Grease a baking dish with butter. Place the sheermal on the baking dish and cover it with plastic sheet.
- Now bake the sheermal in an oven preheated to 200 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Brush milk on the sheemals and sprinkle sesame seeds for flavour.
This dish basically tastes like sweet naan. You can have Sheermal with beef nihari or any other meat curry.
