Spicy Maharashtra Chicken Curry Recipe
Chicken curries all over India differ in some way or the other. Sometimes the blend of spices makes the difference while sometimes the procedure of cooking. Maharashtra chicken curry is one such example of the exotic chicken curries of India.
This spicy Maharashtra chicken curry is prepared using quite a unique blend of spices. The 'goda masala' which is a speciality of this region is used in preparing this special Maharashtra chicken curry. The goda masala is the main ingredient without which the dish loses its flavour. So, try out this delicious spicy Maharashtra chicken curry and enjoy the Marathi flavour.

Ingredients
- Chicken- 500 gms
- Onion- 1 (finely chopped)
- Ginger-garlic paste- 2tbsp
- Tomatoes- 2
- Red chilli powder- 1tsp
- Turmeric powder- 1tsp
- Garam masala- 1tsp
- Salt- as per taste
- Goda masala- 3tbsp
- Oil- 2tbsp
- Water- 1 cup
For Goda Masala
- Dry coconut- 1 (grated)
- Onion- 1 (chopped)
- Ginger- 1 medium sized piece
- Garlic- 7 cloves
- Fresh coriander leaves- 1tbsp (chopped)
- Oil- 2tsp
- Salt- a pinch
- Garam masala powder- 1tsp
Procedure
- Clean and wash the chicken pieces properly.
- Marinate the chicken pieces with one tablespoon of ginger-garlic paste, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and salt. Keep it aside for about 30 minutes.
- To prepare the goda masala heat oil in a pan and add onions. Fry till it turns brown.
- Then add ginger-garlic, grated coconut and fry for a minute.
- Once done, switch off the flame and allow the mixture to cool down.
- Once the mixture cools down grind it in a mixer with coriander leaves, garam masala powder and salt into a smooth paste. Keep this aside.
- After 30 minutes, heat oil in a pan. Add onions. Fry for about 4-5 minutes till they turn golden brown.
- Now add ginger-garlic paste and fry for another 2 minutes on medium flame.
- Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and tomatoes.
- Cook for about 5 minutes till the tomatoes turn mushy.
- Add the goda masala and cook for about a minute.
- Now add the chicken pieces and mix well.
- Stir-fry the chicken pieces for 2-3 minutes.
- Add salt and water. Cover and cook for about 20 minutes on low flame till the chicken gets completely cooked.
- Keep stirring the chicken at regular intervals.
- Once done, check the chicken with a fork to see if it is completely cooked.
- Switch off the flame and serve.
Serve this delicious and spicy Maharashtra chicken curry with steamed rice or chapatis.
