Ways To Look Traditional On Ugadi
Ugadi is a festival that is celebrated with much pomp and splendour in the Southern parts of India. It is the lunar new year for the people of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Needless to say that every woman in these communities want to look traditional on this day. To look perfectly traditional on Ugadi, you have to adopt to the typical South-Indian style.
Who better than the Southern superstars can give us some style tips for looking traditional. As it is Ugadi, the new year, you will be buying new clothes. Just make sure that you by a Kanjeevaram or some traditional silk saree to wear on this festive occasion. There is no scarcity of gold jewellery among South-Indian women. So, wear your heavy gold jewels on this day as it is considered auspicious.
You must look traditional and yet be stylish. For adopting the typical South-Indian style, you need to pay attention to some finer details. For example, a bindi and gajra (garland of flowers) for the hair are very important. You can look traditional by getting the aesthetics of the South-Indian style right.
Here are some basic tips to look traditional on Ugadi.

Gajra
Gajra or a garland of flowers is supposedly a sign of marriage among South-Indians. Even unmarried girls adorn their hair with gajra on festive occasions. You can use the traditional white gajra for Ugadi.

Colourful Gajra
Apart from the plain white gajra of mogra flowers, you can also get a red gajra. If you want to make your hairstyle look more colourful, you can try the red gajra.

Long Braid
Braid your hair right till the end in the South-Indian style. If you have really long hair, then you can also twist your hair into a bun first and then braid the remaining hair.

Half Saree
Young and unmarried girls in South India wear half sarees on festive occasions. A half saree is pretty much like a lehenga choli. But the pattern of the lehenga is like a saree and it is worn with a matching dupatta.

Kajeevaram Saree
In the South, kanjeevaram sarees are always in vogue. You can pick a nice and colourful kanjeevram saree like this one and wear it with a brocade blouse.

When you are trying to look traditional, you must wear a bindi. You can either wear a round kum kum bindi or just draw a dot with black liquid eyeliner.

Traditionally, gold jewellery is very popular in the South. Moreover, traditional gold jewellery will match the golden embroidered sarees that you will be wearing.

Colourful Bangles
You can wear 2 gold bangles in each of your arms. But you should also wear glass or plastic bangles matching your saree. These colourful bangles are cheap and look very vivid.

Many women do not like to wear a lot bangles because it becomes difficult to work with bangle laden arms. You can also choose a fancy and ornate watch like this one instead of bangles.
