Summer is here and it is time to protect your skin from the harmful sun rays. We all stuff our bags with sunscreens to fight the harmful UV rays of the sun. We coat our skin with sunscreen 20-30 minutes before stepping out to prevent sun damage like sun tan or sunburn.
We all think that sunscreens protects the skin whole day. However, there are some facts that you must know about sunscreens. For instance, sunscreens do not provide 24-hours protection. Facts about sunscreens:
Re-applying is necessary: Who says that sunscreens can provide full day protection? Try it once and look out for colour changes on your skin. During summers, you must re-apply sunscreen lotion or creams at least thrice to prevent sun damage on the skin.
Sunscreens can last for more than 2 years: Do not throw the sunscreen bottle if you didn't used it for months. Sunscreens have the capacity to last for around 3 years. However, make sure you read the instructions written on the bottle and check the expiry date as all sunscreens might not have longevity. Moreover, if the colour and consistency of the sunscreen has changed, replace it.
Water resistant sunscreens are best: When you go to the market to buy a sunscreen, you get confused with the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) values. Prefer a sunscreen that has SPF 30 and is water resistant. Washing your hands or face will flow off the sunscreen thus making it exposed to sun damage. So, know this fact before buying a sunscreen this summer.
Check if you need sun tan cream or a sunscreen: We all believe that sunscreens protect our skin from getting tanned. That is why, people with sun tan also prefer sunscreens. Make sure you buy a sunscreen that suits your skin. Sun tan sunscreen absorb more UV rays thus damaging your skin. So, if you do not want to get the tanned colour on your skin, go for sun protection sunscreens.
Different types of sunscreen: If you think that a sunscreen lotion or gel can be applied on skin and hair then you are wrong. For example, sunscreen roll on sticks are applied on small areas like under the eyes. Sunscreen gels are for the hair and creams for the face. So, know this fact before applying a sunscreen.
