Wise men who can read the signs and foresee developments,
Will not be shocked by emerging distressful situations.

Men of true knowledge and deep thought will know beforehand what is likely to befall, and, therefore, they will not be the victims of any kind of stunning grief.

K Srinivasan elegantly translates this Kural as follows:

“The wise, who coming ills foresee,
from future dreaded shocks are free."

Kurals 427 and 429 emphasise the same idea in different ways.
