Thirukural-(Risk)Assessment of Relative Strength-Kural 477

Poatri valangum neri
A wise man has a measure of his income and a plan for his charity,
That is the way to protect his wealth and live with dignity.
A prudent king knows clearly, and with accounting precision, the extent of his wealth and to what level he will be in order, while doing charity. That is the only way to ensure that his wealth and charitable dispositions stay unimpaired.
According to Parimel Azhagar, half of a king"s income should meet his regular expenses. The other half should be equally divided between what is put by for meeting a future emergency, and set apart to be given as gifts given to deserving causes.
Assessment of Relative strength
Thiruvalluvar in (risk) assessment of relative strength, advises the importance of assessing the relative strength of oneself to lead a dignified life.
Thirukural
Thirukural is an ethical treatise belonging to Tamil classical literature, written by Thiruvalluvar. In Kural 477, Valluvar points out that a prudent ruler makes (risk) assessment of his own relative strength for his own well being as well as for charitable causes to lead a dignified life. Ramanandha Adigalar Foundation with the English translation of Thirukural has made it available for a larger reading mass.
